Quality Guesthouse in Port Ellen, Isle of Islay, Scotland

Country: UK
Quality Accommodation on a Hebridean Island

Our guesthouse lies at the heart of Port Ellen, a conservation village on the South East coast of the island of Islay.

This traditional family home has been tastefully renovated with the comfort of our guests in mind. Accommodation is on the first floor with wonderful views of the village and the sea from every room. Our two suites have hospitality tray, TV, radio and CD player. A selection of CDs, magazines and books of local interest is available to guests.

Hosts Jim, a farmer, and Eleanor, a qualified Scottish Tourist Guide, are happy to share their local knowledge to ensure that guests make the best of their stay. Islay has lots to offer the visitor on a short break but a longer stay will allow discovery of some very special places. Golf, fishing or guided birdwatching trips are a few of the things we can arrange. Ardbeg, Lagavulin and Laphroaig distilleries are all within five kilometres. Tours of these, or Islay's other five malt whisky distilleries can be planned and arranged by your hosts in advance of your visit.

Breakfast is served in the dining room overlooking Leodamus Bay. A full cooked breakfast is offered alongside a healthy range of cereals including porridge and fresh fruit with a choice of teas, fresh ground coffee and home made bread and preserves.

Islay has many fine restaurants serving the best of local produce. Beef and lamb, venison and seafood are available all year. However, should guests wish to spend the evening in the house, a light evening meal can be provided by arrangement. A sample menu might include oysters or crab salad, then venison casserole with rowan jelly or, perhaps, a seafood platter, followed by fruit crumble or Scottish cheeses and oatcakes. Guests are welcome to bring a bottle of wine, or perhaps their favourite local malt.

Finlaggan Suite

The bedroom is large with double bed and a comfortable sitting area. Fine cotton, Islay Tweed and original features combine to make this an ideal room in which to relax and enjoy the wonderful view west to the lighthouse and beautiful Kilnaughton Bay. A dressing room and luxurious bathroom make up this suite.

Texa Suite

These rooms can be adapted to meet guests' requirements. The bedroom is spacious and zip and link bed gives the option of king-size or twin beds. The day room is the place to relax and watch the sun go down over the garden and the sea. A good quality chair bed allows three to be accommodated in this suite in comfort.

Tariff

Bed & Breakfast is from £30 per person per night. We regret that we are currently unable to accept credit/debit cards.
