Coastal Walks the Wayfarers' Way The Wayfarers have been organising walking vacations since 1984 and in that time thousands of people have enjoyed their guided walking tours all over the world. A Wayfarers group holiday is not just about walking in beautiful and interesting places with a knowledgable guide, it's also about enjoying exceptional food and wine in luxurious inns and a chance to meet other people who share your love of country life, the landscape, its nature and history. The Wayfarers walkers enjoy a high level of personal service – all groups are fully escorted and have the full-time service of two people – a Walk Leader and a Walk Manager - all details are managed so people only have to think about enjoying the walk. Along the trail, at dinner, enjoying a wine tasting or a visit to a country manor – our wayfaring friends are great company. Well traveled and educated, they are eager to explore and experience the world - not drive through it. They share a love of nature, an adventurous outlook, and a convivial, welcoming spirit. Single travelers are especially welcome and will find congenial companions.The groups are limited to 16 but most departures have on average 8-12 walkers.
As a small, independent company The Wayfarers avoid the hotel chains in favor of locally-owned inns. Gracious English manor houses, Tuscan villas, French châteaux, medieval inns, and rustic lodges in the American West, all chosen for their location and the warmth of their welcome. We dine at these fine inns or at local restaurants where the cuisine reflects the best of the region and we sample many outstanding local wines at dinner. Friendly innkeepers, chefs, and restaurateurs welcome The Wayfarers, sharing their knowledge and pride in their cuisine and culture.
Informative, inspiring, the friends we meet on our Walks offer an insider’s view of local life and lore. For nearly twenty-six years, The Wayfarers have formed friendships with artists, musicians, artisans, naturalists, foresters, vintners and farmers. All are eager to share their skills and talents, many handed down over centuries.
Our dedication to environmental preservation has been a top priority, and what we do today will impact our surroundings for many years more. A Wayfarers Walk brings our guests closer to the unique natural environment of each destination encouraging a global perspective on preserving our worldwide resources. 
Discover the hidden tomb of King Menelaus of Sparta in an exploration of this ancient landscape. For this new Walk we follow simple tracks winding through olive groves and across wild mountainsides, visit remote villages and sample traditional ways of life. There’s the chance to swim in the intense blue waters of the Aegean and explore lanes and squares bursting with local life.
Ideally situated in the South West of France and North West of Spain at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains and on the Atlantic seaboard, the Basque-country’s unspoiled landscapes offer superb variety. On the coast we visit the sophisticated French resort of Biarritz with its chocolate museum and stay overnight in the ancient Spanish city of Hondarribia. We walk along coastal paths beside endless stretches of golden sand, in sight of the Atlantic surf.
Explore some of the UK's most spectacular and undiscovered countryside with Wayfarers co-founders Michael West and Christopher Hague. The Nine Glens of Antrim offer brown moorlands, carpets of wild flowers and mountain gorges. Further north are long stretches of sandy beaches and The Giant's Causeway - a remarkable formation of thousands of basalt columns stretching into the sea.
The evergreen states of Washington and Oregon provide some of America’s most awe-inspiring landscapes, abundant with wildlife and wildflowers, rich in mountains and waterfalls. The fertile valleys of the Pacific Northwest lured pioneers to make the great overland journey west along the Oregon Trail. We walk the Beacon Rock Trail, along the Astoria River and through the forests and coastal bluffs of Cape Disappointment.
There are only two places on the US East Coast where mountains flank the coast; Camden, Maine and Acadia National Park. So it’s a natural for our Maine walk to focus on these two jewels.Setting off in Camden, ‘Jewel of the Coast’, we discover the land and light of New England that inspired America’s first great artists. We explore Acadia National Park, trek through the pine trees of Cathedral Woods and encounter spectacular views from Ragged Mountain.
Croatia's historic walled city, Dubrovnik, is the starting point for this eight-day journey through one of Europe’s most diverse and beautiful countries.Following paths through cypress woods and medieval towns, we explore Croatia’s sleepy harbor towns and villages, and the milk-white limestone buildings that recall a bygone Mediterranean. We discover ancient monasteries and cathedrals, meander along rambling streets and through dramatic gorges.
Forests of ancient oaks, white chalk paths leading to exhilarating cliff-top views, the stately calm of the winding Beaulieu River and purple heath-land grazed by semi-wild ponies, cattle and donkeys, make for a typically English landscape of variety. Home to smugglers, sailors and soldiers over many centuries, this corner of Hampshire was once William the Conqueror’s royal hunting ground.
The mountain vistas and blue-green waters of Italy’s Amalfi Coast provide the backdrop to this varied seven-day trip. Taking in the bustling hillside town of Positano and the vintage glamour of the Isle of Capri, we wander through sloped gardens and terraced lemon groves, explore Roman ruins, cruise across clear waters, discover remote woodlands and underground caverns, and dine on classic Italian food in cliff top cafés.
The ancient trade routes of the Roman Empire are our territory for this unique Walk through the World Heritage Site of the Cinque Terre or ‘Five Lands’. Setting off from the medieval village of Portovenere, we trek cliff-top footpaths overlooking the Mediterranean and picturesque harbor towns of the Italian Riviera. We pass through olive groves, pungent pine forests, quiet mountain pastures and visit the towering cliffs of the Portofino National Park.
Exotic plants and sunny beaches contrast with craggy coves and stormy seas in the county of Cornwall, home to some of England’s most atmospheric landscapes.With the crashing waves of the Cornish coast never far from sight, we follow in the footsteps of novelist Daphne du Maurier on the South West Coast Path, visiting ancient fishing villages, secluded beaches and sub-tropical gardens.
Sicily's pathways are timeless – from the volcanic island of Lipari, to Taormina where Roman nobility built their villas and Ragusa, carved into the side of a mountain. Walking in sight of the sea almost every day we hike Mount Etna’s smoldering flanks, stroll the shore front in Siracusa, once a capital of Classical antiquity, and ferry to the Aeolian Islands for two days of spectacular coastal walking. 
The mystical Ring of Kerry, with its emerald hills and clear blue waters, provides us with an insight into the ancient heritage of Ireland. Meeting in the town of Killarney, we discover a land of forests and lakes, of Franciscan abbeys and Druidic stone circles. We visit the Torc waterfalls and examine Celtic writings on an ancient Ogham stone, before sampling the famous Irish ‘craic’ in a traditional lakeside inn.
The Scots’ pride in their land’s spectacular beauty, Celtic traditions and historic battles are evident throughout our Walk in this stunning countryside. On Highland trails we encounter a pristine landscape of magnificent lakes, heathered moors, mountains and woods scattered with fields rich in flowers, birds and wildlife. Remote islands beckon with lush scenery and picture-perfect ports.
